A simple 13-week cash flow forecast for small business

Profit is an opinion; cash is a fact. A business can be profitable on paper and still fail because the money to pay wages or suppliers isn't in the bank that week. A cash flow forecast fixes that by projecting your receipts and payments forward week by week, so you can see exactly when cash gets tight and act early. This free tool gives Indian traders, manufacturers and startups the 13-week rolling forecast that is usually locked inside paid accounting software.

How the forecast works

Closing cash = Opening cash + Receipts − Payments

Each week's closing balance carries forward as the next week's opening balance, so you get a true running picture across the quarter. Any week where the closing balance turns negative is highlighted in red — that is a cash shortfall you need to plan around.

Why 13 weeks?

Thirteen weeks is exactly one quarter — the standard short-term cash planning horizon used by finance teams and lenders. It is far enough ahead to give you time to act, but close enough that your estimates stay realistic. You can shorten it to as few as 4 weeks for a tighter view.

What to do when a week goes negative

Spotting a shortfall in advance gives you options that vanish in a crisis: delay a non-urgent payment, push to collect overdue debtors sooner, negotiate longer credit with a supplier, or arrange a short-term overdraft before you actually need it. The whole value of a forecast is turning a future surprise into a present decision.

Frequently asked questions

What is a cash flow forecast?

It is a week-by-week projection of money coming in and going out, showing your closing cash balance for each future week so you can prepare for any shortfall.

How is each week's closing cash calculated?

Opening cash + total receipts − total payments. That closing figure becomes the opening balance of the next week, giving a rolling view.

Can I add my own income and expense lines?

Yes. Add as many receipt and payment rows as you need and rename them to match your business — sales, GST refund, rent, salaries, EMI, supplier payments and so on.

Is it free and private?

Completely free, no sign-up, and everything runs in your browser. Nothing you enter is stored or uploaded — use Print or CSV to keep a copy.
