How your salary deductions are calculated
This free salary calculator breaks your CTC down the way a payroll team does — into Provident Fund (PF), Employees' State Insurance (ESI) and TDS (income tax) — and shows exactly what reaches your bank account each month. It also produces a clean salary slip you can print or save as PDF.
Provident Fund (PF / EPF)
PF is 12% of Basic + DA from you, matched by 12% from your employer. The employer's half is split — 8.33% to the EPS pension fund (capped at Rs 1,250 on a Rs 15,000 wage ceiling) and the balance to your EPF. Some employers limit PF to the Rs 15,000 ceiling; use the checkbox above to model that.
Employees' State Insurance (ESI)
ESI applies only when monthly gross is Rs 21,000 or less. You pay 0.75% of gross and the employer pays 3.25%. Above Rs 21,000, ESI stops — which is why higher earners never see an ESI line.
TDS — new tax regime (FY 2026-27)
TDS is your annual income tax spread across 12 months. After the Rs 75,000 standard deduction, these slabs apply (unchanged in Budget 2026):
| Annual taxable income | Rate |
|---|---|
| Up to Rs 4,00,000 | Nil |
| Rs 4,00,001 – 8,00,000 | 5% |
| Rs 8,00,001 – 12,00,000 | 10% |
| Rs 12,00,001 – 16,00,000 | 15% |
| Rs 16,00,001 – 20,00,000 | 20% |
| Rs 20,00,001 – 24,00,000 | 25% |
| Above Rs 24,00,000 | 30% |
A Section 87A rebate makes taxable income up to Rs 12 lakh tax-free, so salary up to about Rs 12.75 lakh a year attracts zero TDS. A 4% health & education cess is added on the tax. Switch to the Old Regime tab to factor in 80C, 80D and HRA deductions instead.
Frequently asked questions
How is PF calculated on my salary?
PF is 12% of Basic + DA from you and 12% from your employer. If your Basic is above Rs 15,000, employers may either calculate on actual Basic or cap it at the Rs 15,000 statutory ceiling — both are allowed.
Why is there no ESI on my payslip?
ESI only covers employees with monthly gross of Rs 21,000 or below. If you earn more, you are outside the ESI scheme and no contribution is deducted.
How much salary is tax-free?
In the new regime, the Rs 75,000 standard deduction plus the Section 87A rebate make salary income up to roughly Rs 12.75 lakh per year free of TDS.
Is gross the same as CTC?
No. CTC = gross + the employer's PF and ESI contributions. Take-home = gross − your PF − your ESI − TDS. All three numbers are different.
Do you store my salary data?
No. Every calculation runs inside your browser. Nothing you type is uploaded or saved anywhere.
