What Is a Holiday Party Icebreaker & Would You Rather Game?

A holiday party icebreaker is a quick game that gets guests talking. This would you rather generator gives you festive dilemmas with two options, such as hot chocolate or warm cider. Guests vote A or B, see the live split, and explain their choice with a conversation starter.

There are 50 curated questions in three party modes: Family, Friends and Corporate Dinner. Everything runs in your browser, so there is nothing to install or sign up for. Each question also has its own tiny link for sharing in a group chat.

How to Use This Tool

  1. Choose a party mode: Any, Family, Friends or Corporate Dinner.
  2. Read the dilemma aloud and let each guest vote by tapping option A or option B.
  3. Watch the percentages update, then read the conversation starter to keep the chat going.
  4. Press Next Question for a new dilemma. Questions in a mode do not repeat until the whole deck has been played.
  5. Press Copy Link or WhatsApp to text the current question to your group, and use Fullscreen for a TV or projector.

Step-by-Step Practical Example

A family picks Family mode and gets question 5: snowball fight with the whole family or a gingerbread house build-off. Ten people vote, six for A and four for B, so the screen shows 60% for A and 40% for B.

The host reads the conversation starter, "Who is the family champion at each?", and lets everyone answer. Then the host presses Copy Link and texts ?q=5 to cousins who could not come. They open it, see the same dilemma and vote on their own phones.

Party Etiquette, Host-Guest Gift Expectations & Workplace Conduct Guidelines

These are widely accepted customs, not legal rules. Local culture and your employer's policies come first.

SituationModern Etiquette StandardHost or Guest TipApplies To
Host gift for a dinner partyBring a small gift such as chocolate, flowers or a bottle. It does not need to be expensive, and hosts do not have to open it that night.Check dietary and alcohol preferences first, and hand it over on arrival.Home
Replying to invitationsReply promptly, usually within a few days, and keep your answer once you give it.Share allergies and dietary needs when you RSVP, not at the table. Both
Arrival timeArrive within 10 to 15 minutes of the start time for a seated dinner. Open-house parties are more relaxed. If you will be late, message the host rather than slipping in unannounced.Home
Extra guests and childrenFollow the invitation wording, and ask before bringing an extra guest or children.Hosts can state plus-ones and children clearly on the invitation. Both
Gift exchanges and Secret SantaParticipation should be voluntary, with a price limit agreed before anyone buys.Avoid cash gifts and personal or suggestive items. Both
Overnight guestsBring a thank-you gift, offer to help, and leave the guest space tidy.Hosts can share Wi-Fi, schedules and quiet hours up front.Home
Workplace party conductWorkplace conduct rules and anti-harassment policies generally still apply at work-related social events, on or off site.Keep humor inclusive, and let people skip a game or question without explanation.Office
Alcohol at work eventsModeration is the norm. Employers often provide non-alcoholic options and safe ride information.Never pressure anyone to drink.Office
Inclusive holiday planningUse neutral wording such as holiday party, offer varied food options, and do not require religious participation.Offer vegetarian, halal, kosher and non-alcoholic choices where possible. Both
Icebreaker and question topicsKeep questions light. Politics, religion, pay, health and dating are better left out of group games.Choose the Corporate Dinner mode for work events and allow anyone to pass. Both
Photos and social mediaAsk before posting photos of other guests, especially colleagues and children.Hosts can announce a photo policy at the start. Both
Thank-you follow-upSend a short thank-you message within a few days of a dinner or party.A brief text counts for casual events; a handwritten note suits formal ones. Both
