Social media IT Rules 2021: The Modi government of the Center has placed a new condition for getting the status of social media platform under the new social media IT rules. Defining the new rule, the government has set a minimum number of 50 lakh users for the social media platform. Companies falling under this definition will have to follow additional precautions to prevent misuse of their social media platforms under the new IT rules.

Under the new rules announced earlier this week, important social media platforms will have to follow additional rules, including appointment of Chief Compliance Officer, Nodal Contact Person and Resident Grievance Officer. There is also a condition in this that all the three officers will have to stay in India. They will have to publish monthly compliance reports and details of discarded materials continuously.

Let me tell you that at present there are 53 crores of WhatsApp, 44.8 crores of YouTube, 41 crores of Facebook, 21 crores of Instagram and 1.75 crores of Twitter. In the notification issued by the government, it has been said that the central government has set a limit of 50 lakh users for an important social media platform in India.

Earlier, the government announced on Thursday to tighten the rules governing social media and streaming companies. The move aims to make social media platforms such as Facebook, WhatsApp, Twitter and Instagram more accountable for published content.
