Attend Every Class
Studies show a direct correlation between attendance and GPA. Missing just 3 classes can drop a grade.
Active Recall
Instead of re-reading notes, test yourself. Active recall is 2× more effective for long-term retention.
Form Study Groups
Teaching others reinforces your own understanding. Aim for groups of 3–5 focused students.
Office Hours
Professors are your best resource. Students who attend office hours consistently score 0.3–0.5 GPA points higher.
Grade Replacement
Many schools allow grade forgiveness — retaking a course to replace a low grade. Check your academic policy.
Credit Hour Strategy
Take harder courses in lighter semesters and distribute difficult courses across terms to protect your GPA.
๐ How to Calculate GPA
GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using this formula:
Step-by-Step Example
Say you have 3 courses: Math (A, 3 credits), English (B+, 3 credits), Science (A-, 4 credits).
Weighted vs Unweighted GPA
An unweighted GPA uses the standard 4.0 scale for all courses regardless of difficulty. A weighted GPA rewards harder courses — AP/IB courses can earn up to 5.0, Honors up to 4.5. Weighted GPA is typically used in high school contexts.
Cumulative GPA
Cumulative GPA combines all semesters: Total Quality Points from all semesters ÷ Total Credit Hours from all semesters.
